Going with a New Blog Layout

I decided to give SweetPeas and Soybeans a new look. The previous design didn’t allow me to showcase blog posts, and only showed my most recent posts on the homepage. Since I wrote about reenactments a lot this past year, my blog appeared to be more of a living history website than anything else, unless a reader paid close attention to the menus.

So why haven’t I posted a whole lot of recipes in the last year? Terrible lighting, that’s why.

It used to be that I could snap pictures of dinners I made without any prep or extra work because my house in Danville had great lighting. Also, I didn’t really know what I was doing as far as photography went, so I spent far less time on my food photos than I do now. That made posting recipes a lot easier.

And have I mentioned that two kids are a lot harder to manage than one? I think so. Maybe once or twice…

At least when they got into the fridge, they grabbed the carrots.

My hope for this new design: To showcase seasonal recipes at the top of the homepage, along with a cloth diaper blog, a mommy blog, a reenacting blog, and a blog about staying healthy (fit with a family). That way, I can continue to write what I want, when I want, and I don’t have to worry about one subject dominating the site’s homepage.

I’ve also got my Amazon.com affiliate links up and running. There was a little hiccup with that for a bit. So if you click on an Amazon link from my site and purchase something, I will get a small commission from the sale. Whenever I mention that directly, I believe I’m supposed to say this:

“SweetPeas and Soybeans is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.”

If you’re interested in getting an email when I post a blog (it’ll tell you the blog title and give you the first paragraph or so of the post), enter your email in the space at the far left bottom of the website and click on the Follow button. Since I expect my blog posts to be a bit more spaced out than they used to be when I first started SweetPeas and Soybeans, (I used to crank out 2 or 3 blogs a week…now I’m lucky to post twice a month), this might be a good idea if you don’t want to miss any.

And now I’m pretty sure these two just “destructoed” the living room. I swear, I clean more now than I ever have before, and yet, my place is always a disaster area. If anyone has the secret to keeping kids’ toys organized but also accessible to them…I want to hear it!
